The sugar - so good but so bad in so many ways

Sweet old sugar! Everybody knows what sugar is and how it looks like in its various forms: granulated, powdered, brown or cubes, it's used in every house for ages, to sweeten coffee, tea or other drinks ,to bake cakes and all kind of sweets.

Sugar is extracted from sugarcane in tropical climates and in cooler climates, from sugar beat. There are two types of sugar : the brown one, unrefined which besides sucrose contains traces of natural substances from the plant it's extracted and the white refined sugar which contains exclusively sucrose, the other substances being eliminated with chemical procedures.

Our days, the main concern about sugar consumption is whether it's bad for your health, especially the refined sugar

It's estimated that an average person consumes about 24 kilograms of sugar per year and that means an average of 260 calories per day, per person. That's huge considering that the maximum number of calories of sugar recommended is of 150 calories for men and 100 for women and that's less than a can of soda contains.

More studies are made on sugar toxic effects and it raised a concern that it's the main cause of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and it's also linked to developing cancer. And it turns out that sugar it's more addictive that anyone thought , its effects are reminiscent of drugs. The more sugar you eat, the more you built a high tolerance to it, like drug or alcohol users do, and that means you start to consume more and more.

I'm sure you think everything that is good, must be bad for your health, but this can be controlled. Just prepare your own food and drinks, to avoid the added sugar in processed food. That's how you can control the amount of sugar you and your family consume. That will make a big difference !
