Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition.
Every Halloween stories fascinated and put to test the collective imagination, but very few know in reality the true sense of this echo of ancient origin. In the Halloween origin are found the most important and ancient holydays of the Celts: Samhain.
This traditional holyday survived many centuries in England and Ireland, the land of ancient Celts, until the XIX century, when the Irish immigrants exported it to America.
Over the time the simple Celtic traditions amplified and the Irish brought with them: myths, legends, traditions and recipes that were added to the cultural heritage.
The American Halloween tradition of "trick-or-treating" probably dates back to the early All Souls' Day parades in England. During the festivities, poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries called "soul cakes" in return for their promise to pray for the family's dead relatives.
